Makua Valley
Posted by Aubain (Honolulu, Tonga) on 23 September 2007 in Landscape & Rural.
This is a close image of the soil of the once blooming Makua Valley. This is how it looks like at the moment.
The degradation occurred after years of military explotaition for live fire "management" training and ballistic experiments. On July 22, 2003 the Army lost control of a prescribed burn that scorched 2,100 acres.
Once upon a time were Hawai'i with the most incredible biodiversity on the earth for mile square...not anymore.
